Jack entered the ball, dressed in the Goldenlake attire. Like Loki, his Knight Master could not attend, making it possible for Jack to choose what he wanted to wear.
He intended to make this night a good one, so he made his way towards the group with his "happy-face" on, so that Loki would see that he wanted no fighting, and hopefully, no arging would arise.
Mind you, this would only work until The girl of his dreams came.
As he reached the group, he bowed lowely to Annie, knowing it would annoy her. Went up to Roxas, put his hands on his shoulders and grinned mischieviously, and then turned to the others.
Edward, it seemed, was staring off into space. So, just to be a pain, Jack hit him on the back with a hearty slap to break his attention, and then favored him with a rare look of sorrow.
"Sorry, mate." he whispered. "If I could do anything, I would."
Finally, he turned to Loki, who was talking to a lovely woman, of whom Jack had seen in the Riders. He had never met her before, and figured he would introduce himself after saying hello to Loki.
"Loki!" He boomed, as he threw his arm around Loki's shoulder. It was easy for Jack to do this, for Loki wasn't far off his height. He was just a bit shorter. "How you doin'?"
He turned to the lady, and pretended he hadn't noticed her before. "Ah!" Jack said, and bowed (not as deeply as he did to Annie, however) "Beautiful Lady! Jack of Goldenlake, at your service!"
((I know... I is a dork. I was trying to imitate Julian.))

She raised an eyebrow at Edward, he seemed to be a bit... out od things. It was almost as if he hadn't wished to be there. She could kind of understand that, apparently his mother hadn't cared for balls either, and had tended to hide away during them.
She gave a small curtsy back to Loki, "I'm Artemis Smythesson."
She was a bit surprised to see a well-built man/teen join there group, appearing as he bowed to Annie. Apparently she wasn't the only one that was formal at the moment.
She really did jump when he spoke, in a booming voice to Loki, it seemed that he was either rude, or hadn't seen her. She was still a bit taken aback when he turned to her, with his loud deep voice.
She allowed a bit of a blush to appear on her cheeks as he spoke to her, Bob wasn't there, so there was no trouble in flirting. She gave a small curtsy to Jack, "Artemis Smythesson, good sir."

((Just because I is bored...))
"Artemis. Such a lovely name." Jack said. "However, no 'sir', I am but a lowly Squire."
Moving away from Loki, so it did not seem as if there was two tall men towering over Artemis, Jack moved so that they formed a circle. That way they could talk freely, and see everyone.

Loki nodded, he didn't really believe Edward, but there wasn't anything he could really do or say with the group of people around them. And Edward had heard it all before anyways.
He chuckled as Jack joined the group, only to slap Edward on the back, with quite a bit of force. He shook his head, sometimes it seemed as though Jack truly didn't know his own strength.
Then Jack came and got inbetween him and Artemis, though they were only just introducing themselves, and not really in a conversation.
He nodded, "Jack." He wasn't being cold, but Loki didn't tend to be one for dramatics, at least not like Jack who seemed to live on them. "I'm doing well. And you?"
Even as he asked the question back, he knew that he wouldn't be getting any reply, as Jack had zoned in on Artemis.
"...So, Roxas, how have you been doing?"

Artemis inclined her head at the comment. “Then I am no ‘Lady’, I am but a Queen’s Rider.” She was mimicking him back, teasingly.
“But, enough with the formalities.” She hoped that she wasn’t being rude to the others in the circle, but it had been a while since she’d been able to talk to a guy, one that wasn’t like a younger brother, such as Edward. And Loki had turned back to the others talking with them. Though it was nice that Loki and Jack were no longer towering over her. “So tell me Jack, what adventures have you been on as a noble squire?”
She looked around the room, her eyes being drawn to the person standing by himself in the corner, a pleasant look on his face, but completely alone. She turned back to Jack, and waited until he was done speaking, then she asked, “Who is that man over there?”

Roxas wasn't sure what to do when Annie hugged him. He wasn't used to this sort of things. He wasn't even sure if royals were supposed to behave this way. Thank goodness only Loki and Edward were the only ones who saw the hug. Roxas stood there, wondering what to say next. He was incredibly grateful to Loki. 'Loki, remind me I owe you.' he thought to himself.
Roxas merely chuckled at the force in which Jack gave to Edward. He smiled at Jack's greeting to his brother. He noticed Artemis, a fellow Queen's Rider, but wasn't to able to. "... Well Loki. How is it being a squire these days?" he asked.

Edward choked as he flew a couple inches forward, only to be pulled back by an appologetic Jack. He was glad Jack was happy, and probably not going to start a fight with Loki, so, Edward relaxed a bit, ignoring the stranger by the door.
He watched the people around him speak for a bit, Jack had now turned his attentions to Artemis, Annie was still talking with Roxas, Loki was somewhere in the middle. It wasn't unlike Edward to go oddly quiet, so he could tell that his guy friends wouldn't ask him what the matter was. And if they didn't ask, nobody else did really.
He excused himself after a few moments to go get a drink, and would have made a drink order, but most people weren't really paying attention to him at the moment. Edward left it that way, and retired to the drink table. After grabbing something that looked sort of delictible, Edward leaned against the wall, in a corner in which he could see everyone, but where it was quiet.
He thought of what he was to do with himself, watching the woman he loved being courted by another, probably better man. He almost wished to see his sister, just to speak to her. He wished he could have someone, who maybe had a better idea of what he should do then the guys, to give him advice on the matter.
Of course, it was always the same advice. Why don't you ask her? It doesn't hurt to try. Edward didn't think those people understood that when it was someone you liked but don't know very well, it's fine. When it's your best friend, it's not that easy. It's risking friendship.
He positioned himself to look away from the group, and looked to the doorway. Maybe somebody interesting would pop up.

Jack gave a shrug to Loki. "Same ol', same ol'. Nothing new to report."
he shook his head at Artemis, with a smile to show it was good natured. He REALLY wanted to say how generally being a Queen's Rider makes her a lady to him, but kept his mouth shut for good measure.
"I only have gruesome tales of the battles that happen at the borders of Tortall." Jack's face went grave, he never really did like speaking of the horrible things that sometimes befell of those battles. They were horrific, and jack preferred not to talk of them much. "I would only tell those tales if you wished to have nightmares in your sleep. But," He was just about to change the subject to the Queen's Riders, when Artemis suddenly asked him who a man was in the far corner.
Jack gave him a swift glance, and his oddly good memory took a mental image and stored it. "I don't know. He looks fimiliar, but I can't place him. Probably a new foreign embissary." he calculated a bit, trying to figure out where he had seen him before, and then realized something. "Edward was staring in that direction when I hit him in the back," he whirled around to see if Edward recognized him, and found that Edward had left the group. "Where did Edward go?" He used his height fully know, and searched the room, only to find him having a drink. "Huh. I'll ask him when he gets back."

Edward noticed as rukan came into the room, wearing a lovely black dress, and jumped with a little excitement. He hadn't seen Rukan for a long time, and was glad when she made her way towards him.
"Hey Rukan!" Edward made a quick sweep around the room, making sure nobody was looking, and they weren't, they were all gossiping amongst themselves, and then gave his old friend a quick hug. He didn't really care initially, he hadn't seen Rukan in so long, but he decided to make a quick check anyway. When he released her, he answered the rest of her question:
"I'm well enough, not sure about my feelings, but that's normal. But enough about me, how have you been?"\
For some odd reason, Rukan always seemed to take everyone's mind off of what bothered them. It was probably because her Knight Master was constantly busy, and they never saw her anymore. She had the best stories, and everyone was always excited by the tales she would tell when she came home.
Edward was rather pleased and was going to boast about it for weeks, that he got to hear her tales first this time.

Rukan laughed, returning the hug, "It's good to see you too!" She smiled, she'd never cared too much about public appearances, but she understand that tonight public appearances were important.
She nodded, "Don't ya hate feelings." She gave him a small smile. "I've been pretty good, it's been busy at the border, but that means that I'm not bored. Just tired."
She shrugged, knowing what the older squire wanted. She laughed, "Let's see... There were people tall as giants, well, they were taller than me, and the stormwings were horrible."
She took a cup off of the table, putting some juice into it. She took a sip, savouring the flavours.

Damin looked around, taking in the actions of people. He then noticed a tall, brown-haired man looking at him. Damin didn't stare back keeping him in his peripheral vision. He saw Annie jump into a younger boy's arms, she looked happy. That's when an idea popped into his head. If somehow he was to manipulate her relationship with this boy, she would be vulnerable to an attack, letting her guard slip. Damin could easily use his mind to lure this young court away from, and slip deceitful thoughts into her mind, breaking down her sanity. As Damin let is devilish plans drift through his head, he started to walk to the drink table, away form the man that was so interested in his presence and his lady-friend. Damin casually grabbed a drink, sipped it and continued watching the crowd.

"Mithros, do mine ever get the best of me!" Edward said. Rukan knew of his feelings for Annie, she was one of the few he had told, simply because she was someone he felt he could trust. Even more than his own family sometimes.
"The border! That reminds me! My Knight Master will be going there soon, so I will come as well! We shall be able to fight side by side!" Then his face went pale. "Giants? And Stormwings?" He moved his shoulder uncomfortably, "And I thought Jack and Loki were bad."
He watched as she savored the flavors of her drink and then noticed the man who had caught his attention earlier. He seemed to be paying attention to the crowd, so Edward decided not to bother him by staring. Instead, he turned back to Rukan who was very much enjoying her drink.
"I don't suppose you get nice tasting juice at the border."

Loki couldn't help but roll his eyes as his brother completely missed his question, or maybe he did answer, and Loki just hadn't heard him, but he went with the flow of things.
"It's been... boring. There's not much to do here at the palace, especially seeing as I'm not a book person like father. Hopefully an order will come in that'll send me off someplace, though only a short while." Can't be away from Edward's sister too long!
He was a bit surprised to notice that Edward had left the group and gone to the punch bowl. Standing beside him was Rukan. As Squire that was a year younger than him, the same age as Annie. She had been off at the border for the better part of the year, not getting to return to Corus too often, as her knight master was in-charge of one of the posts out there. Lucky Edward, getting to hear all of the stories first.

Artemis raised an eyebrow, she had, in a way, been joking. She knew that terrors of battles, as she'd been battles herslef. It was a part of the Queen's Riders job description, that they were constantly going off to fight and scout. Though she didn't correct Jack and tell him that she was no innocent to what he had seen/
It was easy to see that Jack didn't care much for the subject, so she was glad for her question to take away some of that feeling.
She nodded slowly, it was probably of no concern to her, really, who the man was though as Jack mentioned that the man looked familiar, she couldn't help but think that might have been why she pointed him out. He was familiar, but she didn't know him, couldn't put a name to the face, or even a job.
She was a bit surprised to see that Edward had left, she turned a bit with Jack to look at him. And she was a a bit shocked to see that he'd left the group, though it sort of seemed like they'd all split into seperate groups, and that he was talking to someone that she didn't know. She nodded at what Jack said, "Sounds good."
She paused, what was another thing to talk about.... "How often are you here at the Palace?"
