The Mask
Name: Vakimei (Kim) Ozgard
Age: Twenty-three
Place of birth: Carthak
Gender: Female
Home: Corus, the Lower City
Position: Bartender at the Dancing Dove, a Rogue.
Cannon or original: Original
Face claim: Freema Agyeman
Appearance:
Kim is of medium height, about 5''5 or so. She is relatively broad-shouldered and wiry. She doesn't go out of her way to exercise, but as she lives in the Lower City, it's a bit hard to avoid. She doesn't look like someone you'd be in too much of a hurry to get into a fight with.
Her skin is a light bronze, fairly typical of a native Carthaki, and mostly free of blemishes. Her eyes are dark, but can appear to be lighter in a certain light. Her hair is typically tied back in a messy ponytail, and black, kinky strands can escape to float around her face. When she grins, which is often, her teeth are shown to be slightly crooked, but not much.
Kim's clothing is usually a mishmash of the nearest seamstress's mistakes, anything she can scrounge, and some old clothing she brought with her from Carthak but has since modified. The only thing she hasn't modified or made herself are her boots, which are big, long-lived and expensive when she bought them.
Personality:
Kim is loud, bold and extroverted. As a bartender, she enjoys talking with her patrons, but isn't above getting into a good fight with them, verbal or physical, though the latter isn't really appreciated unless everyone in attendance is pretty drunk.
Incidentally, Kim herself doesn't drink, despite being a bartender. She is very good with throwing knives and alright with daggers and fighting staffs.
She's something of an optimistic pessimist. She's often elaborating on the multiple worse case scenarios that could possibly happen, but usually has a plan for them.
Kim hates being called by her full name, Vakimei, for reasons she keeps to herself. She's bored incredibly easily, which is part of the reason she lives in Tortall and not back in Carthak. Despite appearing open and trusting much of the time, in reality, she is a very suspicious person, often verging on paranoid. She really doesn't have anyone she trusts wholly.
History:
Kim was born in a small village in Carthak, to the southwest of the capital, far down the coast. She led a fairly quiet life with her seamstress mother and father who worked on a farm just out of the town. Her parents weren't particularly interesting; they'd met when they were younger, and married in their twenties.
Kim is their oldest child, born three years after her parents, Luzged and Jinaina Ozgard, married. She has three younger sisters, Naiza, Misijai, and Ofilei.
She and her family lived simply in the small village. They were relatively safe, as safe as one is when you live in a small fishing village on the edge of the Emerald Ocean. They got the occasional pirate raid, but the raids were really pretty half-hearted.
When she reached eighteen, she was still unmarried (oddly enough) and was exceptionally bored with her life. Kim expressed her boredom loudly and plaintively to her parents and anyone who would listen, but no one seemed to sympathize all that much. Even people her own age told her to just make do.
Kim disregarded their advice, packed her things, and was hired on a ship that had conveniently docked at the village. It had been through a bad storm, needed to make repairs, and Kim's village was the first one they'd come across--the ship needed to be fixed so badly it couldn't sail to a town a bit more suited to making repairs.
It had also lost a crew member, and were a bit desperate, so Kim hired on, looking for adventure. For the next four or five years, she wandered around the Emerald Ocean, hiring on and occasionally stowing away with multiple ships. She's been to the Copper Isles, to the Yamini Islands, and to multiple coastal cities in Carthak and Totall.
After a while of traveling around on ships, Kim got bored with that too. She got a job as a barmaid in the Lower City, a job which she still holds, but she'll probably get bored with that soon enough, even though she's joined the Rogue (however, she's not very influential--an occasional thief, mostly a source of information for other Rogues).
Rp sample:
It was quiet. It wasn't often quiet in the Dancing Dove, but there were certain times of day when everyone was asleep, mainly the early hours of the morning. Kim leaned against the bar, running a hand over her eyes. She was exhausted, but she couldn't sleep. This didn't happen to her very often, but when it did, she'd come down from her room to the bar, which seemed to calm her down for some reason.
Usually, when she couldn't sleep, it was because she'd woken up with nightmares. There were a lot of things she could have nightmares about, like storms and fires and pirates and bandits, but she usually didn't have them. Tonight, the nightmare had been a vivid retelling of the time the ship she'd signed on with had unknowingly ridden into a plague town. That usually didn't happen, but it appeared mistakes were made. The plague was a particularly nasty one, with most of the inhabitants either sick, dead, or had fled or were in the process of fleeing.
Most of the time, she didn't like to think about the bad things that had happened to her when she was traveling. Sometimes, however, it couldn't be avoided. She hadn't had a dramatic, amazing past like others did, but what she did have were many terrible and wonderful memories stored up inside her.
